Shekhar Sumar and his son Adhyayan Suman are currently impressing fans globally as Khan Bahadur Zulfikar Ahmed and Nawab Zorawar Ali Khan, respectively, in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi. While the father-son duo share screen space for the first time, Adhyayan – during an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, revealed this connection didn’t help him land roles in films.

He also got candid about being a starkid and spoke about how only some nepokids get benefits

Adhyayan Suman on being judged as a starkid

Talking about people judging him for belonging to a film family, Adhyayan said, “It’s happening because there are a few people in our industry who come from privilege and who are doing films no matter if the films are doing well or not. But not every starkid lives that life. Not every starkid has multiple films under his/her belt. Not every starkid has a big producer backing him. I’ve never had anyone back me up. No producers backed me in terms ki ‘film flop hogayi toh 4 aur bannegi, tension matt le.’ Mere films ke beech mein gap 6-8 saal ka gap raha hai. So it’s not like I’ve had multiple films being for me.”

He added, “Privilege has only helped me in the fact that I’ve emotionally been stable, but I never had the career opportunities because of it.”

Adhyayan on his struggles

Relating his struggles to those of Gautam Buddha leaving the luxuries of a palace and struggling in the real world, he said, “I gave up on a lot of luxuries in my life which people don’t know and I don’t want to tell them (about) right now. People don’t know how I live my life. I don’t feel I’m successful enough for people to take my struggle seriously. The day I become successful, then people will be, ‘Arey, kya journey rahi. Uff!’ There’s no point in telling people of my struggles right now, they won’t care. But hopefully, someday, when I become successful enough, I would like to tell my part of the journey as well.
